Hi, everyone! Today is the first day of May and also the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker. If you read any of our information about Sepphoris from the other day, Nazareth was several miles away from Sepphoris and Joseph and Jesus would have certainly come to Sepphoris to sell their carpenter goods. Our weather is heating up and it was warm and sunny during our entire pilgrimage. Yesterday, I posted some pictures of our visit to Sepphoris! Here is a slideshow of more pictures highlighting the hometown of Anna and Joachim, the parents of the Blessed Mother! A happy Mother’s Day wish (albeit a little early) to all!

Sepphoris – “The Ornament of Galilee”

Sepphoris or Zippori was a very beautiful city. The famous Roman historian, Flavius Josephus, has called it “The Ornament of Galilee”. It was also known as the “city of peace”. Located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, it had been a very prosperous city as well as the capital of Galilee. This prosperity dates back to the time of Anna and Joachim, Our Lady’s parents who lived here. In fact, it is thought that Joseph and Jesus would have brought their carpentry goods to the city to sell as Nazareth is located so near to Sepphoris. “Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’” Mark 16: 13 St. Peter was the one to answer Him and tell him that He was the Christ.

Caesarea figures prominently in Church history as the apostles began their work after Jesus’ death in this area. St. Paul was the first to say that Christ’s Good News had to be carried to the Gentiles, the non-Jews, too. St. Peter baptized the first non-Jew, the Roman officer, Cornelius, here in Caesarea.
